COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Homeless teenagers at a central Colorado shelter are feeling the effect of the government's economic stimulus package. It's the feeling of a dentist's drill.
The 20 runaway youths living at the Urban Peak shelter had no regular dental care until this spring, when a $1.3 million stimulus grant to a community health center paid for a mobile dental and medical clinic to visit once a month. The residents now get medical and dental screenings, and cavities filled, right from their shelter's parking lot.
"I knew my teeth needed to be fixed but I had no money," says Michelle Daulton, 18, who has been living at the shelter for about four months and hadn't seen a dentist since she was 13.
Now she's had three chipped teeth repaired. "It was absolute and pure relief, I mean that," she said.
From the Colorado homeless shelter to rural Pennsylvania clinics that can accept new patients, health centers that serve the poor are among the first places the federal stimulus package is being spent.
The stimulus law sets aside $2.5 billion for free and low-cost health clinics, and a big chunk of it — about $500 million — is already being spent. The White House has promised another burst of money this summer. Full Story Here
What a beautiful and heartwarming story. Aren't you glad they passes the economic stimulus package? I just have one question how in the hell does giving money to low income or free clinics stimulate the economy? See what happens when you elect a community organizer. I don't have a problem with this if that is what the entire bill was for, but this in no way, shape or form stimulates the economy. And that is what we were told this bill was supposed to do. This is exactly why there is no "change" and no new ideas. This is the same old song and dance.

Cap and Kill American Families with taxes
This Cap and Kill American Families with taxes, I mean Trade bill that by all accounts will not be read and will be passed, even without full democrat support is very dangerous. This will be the largest increase in taxes in American history. This will crush consumers of energy or the American people. Yeah democrats!!!
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has put cap-and-trade legislation on a forced march through the House, and the bill may get a full vote as early as Friday. It looks as if the Democrats will have to destroy the discipline of economics to get it done.
Despite House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman's many payoffs to Members, rural and Blue Dog Democrats remain wary of voting for a bill that will impose crushing costs on their home-district businesses and consumers. The leadership's solution to this problem is to simply claim the bill defies the laws of economics.
Their gambit got a boost this week, when the Congressional Budget Office did an analysis of what has come to be known as the Waxman-Markey bill. According to the CBO, the climate legislation would cost the average household only $175 a year by 2020. Edward Markey, Mr. Waxman's co-author, instantly set to crowing that the cost of upending the entire energy economy would be no more than a postage stamp a day for the average household. Amazing. A closer look at the CBO analysis finds that it contains so many caveats as to render it useless.
For starters, the CBO estimate is a one-year snapshot of taxes that will extend to infinity. Under a cap-and-trade system, government sets a cap on the total amount of carbon that can be emitted nationally; companies then buy or sell permits to emit CO2. The cap gets cranked down over time to reduce total carbon emissions.
To get support for his bill, Mr. Waxman was forced to water down the cap in early years to please rural Democrats, and then severely ratchet it up in later years to please liberal Democrats. The CBO's analysis looks solely at the year 2020, before most of the tough restrictions kick in. As the cap is tightened and companies are stripped of initial opportunities to "offset" their emissions, the price of permits will skyrocket beyond the CBO estimate of $28 per ton of carbon. The corporate costs of buying these expensive permits will be passed to consumers. Full Story Here

It's been a busy couple of days with the Governor of South Carolina scandal blowing up and Obama's half assed attempt to explain his health care plan.
I will first tackle the awful things the Governor of SC has done, not only to his family but his party. With his little vacation away from his family on Father's Day weekend Governor Sanford cleared his head alright, with his Latin American mistress and also hopefully his desk. For a man to claim to be of a higher moral standard than the rest of us to behave in such a manor is disgusting by itself but to do so leaving the state in which you govern with no way of being contacted is beyond stupid and probably against the law. He should and hopefully he will resign. He may have also used taxpayer money for the trip. Full Story Here
Then we have the President by most accounts struggling to detail and explain his own health care plan. His so-called "Prescription for America" sounded more like another reaching and unexplainable plan that is full of holes and should probably have been ironed out before the program. I understand something needs to be done but lets not put in place something that would be worse than what we've got. And I'm not even saying his plan would be worse but lets debate it a little bit and make sure. What I have read about the preventative measures being added to the bill I like very much so far. We need more preventive care and less after the fact care, this alone will greatly reduce cost for everyone. Full Story Here

And how can I forget North Korea and Iran? Do you see what happens when you leave unfinished business? North Korea should have been taken care of long ago and now they pose a very serious threat and we need to get very tough with them. They claim they will wipe us of the map if inspect their ships which may be carrying illegal weapons and now they vow to increase their atomic capacity and use nuclear weapons. This could have been Saddam in twenty years or one of his sons. We don't know nor will we ever know but it makes you ponder the thought what if we just let Iraq sit like we have done with North Korea? By not finishing the job when we had the opportunity. Full Story Here
Now Iran. So far the president's foreign policy hasn't been going to well. We have North Korea threatening a strike and now Iran refusing to talk because of his soft comments about the killing of protesters. About 20 people have been killed in protests after Ahmadinejad was re-elected in a disputed June 12 poll which opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi says was rigged. In what appeared to be further evidence of the government's determination to crush resistance, 70 professors were detained after meeting Mousavi, his website said on Thursday. His own ignorance about them being willing to talk and we need to engage our enemies is and will lead him nowhere. Full Story Here

Wait and See
Though some analysts see the protests on the streets of Iran as a potential tipping point that could eventually lead to the toppling of the regime, the U.S. president made clear that he's still interested in reviving diplomatic ties with the hard-line Islamic government.
Obama said the United States is "appalled and outraged" by the regime's crackdown on protesters, but that his administration is taking a wait-and-see attitude. Full Story Here
Yeah no shit on the wait and see attitude. That is all this administration has done refuse to speak out or pick a side on anything. News flash you're the FUCKING President of the US, right or wrong the leader of the free world looked up to by other countries. This isn't a community function where you don't want to offend anybody because you're bringing people together. The Iranians are slaughtering people for speaking their mind and opposing an election they fell was unfair its not rocket science you stupid fuck. Let's just wait and see on this and on North Korea who by the way is testing nuclear weapons oh and threatening to attack the US if their ships are inspected, ships that may be carrying illegal arms and God only knows what else. Oh good idea refuse to get tough walk all they way up to that line then retreat like a bitch with your tail between your legs, yeah let's wait and see.

North Korea Warns of Nuclear War
Do we wait? Are they bluffing or are they planning to use their nuclear weapons? Can we take a chance?
By VIJAY JOSHI, Associated Press Writer Vijay Joshi, Associated Press Writer
SEOUL, South Korea – South Korea's president ordered his top security officials Sunday to deal "resolutely and squarely" with new North Korean warnings of a nuclear war on the eve of his U.S. visit. In Washington, Vice President Joe Biden said "God only knows" what North Korea wants from the latest showdown. READ FULL STORY

Iran Votes
*****UPDATE*****
Ahmadinejad "won" a highly protested election in Iran extending his anti west garbage.
By ANNA JOHNSON and NASSER KARIMI, Associated Press Writers Anna Johnson And Nasser Karimi
TEHRAN, Iran – Protesters set fires and smashed store windows Sunday in a second day of violence as groups challenging President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election tried to keep pressure on authorities. Anti-riot police lashed back and the regime blocked Internet sites used to rally the pro-reform campaign. FULL STORY
Big day in the future relationship with Iran. Heavy turnout predicted as Iranians pick their new leader. I hope for the sake of Iran and the sake of the US- Iranian relationship that they get Ahmadinejad out of there. I think the things he says without any of the actions he has taken create instability and uncertainty for the entire region.
By ANNA JOHNSON and BRIAN MURPHY, Associated Press Writers Anna Johnson And Brian Murphy
TEHRAN, Iran – Iranians packed polling stations from boutique-lined streets in north Tehran to conservative bastions in the countryside Friday with a choice that's left the nation divided and on edge: keeping hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in power or electing a reformist who favors greater freedoms and improved ties with the United States.
Crowds formed quickly at many voting sites in areas considered both strongholds for Ahmadinejad and his main rival, reformist Mir Hossein Mousavi, who served as prime minister in the 1980s and has become the surprise hero of a powerful youth-driven movement. At several polling stations in Tehran, mothers held their young children in their arms as they waited in long lines. FULL STORY HERE

Shovel Ready Stimulus?
I think what was meant by shovel ready was they were going to shovel that pile of shit they call a stimulus package. Guess what turns out most of the stimulus isn't going to stimulate crap and shovel ready projects are getting pushed to the back of the line in favor of social programs. I seem to remember everyone being feed a bunch of garbage about swift and calculated recovery that stimulates the economy. Social programs don't stimulate the economy.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Remember the "shovel-ready" projects lined up for all that stimulus money? It turns out social spending, more than construction, is hitting pay dirt in the huge federal effort to turn the economy around.
The public face of the stimulus package has been the worker in a hard hat, getting back on the job to rebuild the nation's infrastructure.
Earlier this spring, for example, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared before the cameras at a job site along a freeway east of San Francisco. He declared that the stimulus-financed project would provide paychecks for 235 construction workers who otherwise would have to "stand in the unemployment line."
The reality of how the vast majority of the stimulus money will be spent is quite different, and that raises questions about how much help the Recovery Act backed by President Barack Obama will be to the economy in the long run.
Most of the roughly $300 billion coming directly to the states is being funneled through existing government programs for health care, education, unemployment benefits, food stamps and other social services.
"We all talked about 'shovel-ready' since September and assumed it was a whole lot of paving and building when, in fact, that's not the case," said Chris Whatley, the Washington director of the Council of State Governments, a trade group for state governments. He estimates states will get three times more money for education than for transportation. FULL STORY HERE

The world's savior is here!!!

The world's savior is here!!! Don't you think that after hearing this speech Obama gave that Muslims and the Middle East as a whole are not sarcastically saying the same thing? He must not get it, they hate us for involving ourselves in their business and for our arrogant ways. So he goes over there and lays out, arrogantly how we are going to move forward in their affairs. And this quote is just lovely, "And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear," where in the hell does it say to do that as president?
I understand what he is trying to do and how he wants to change the view other countries have of America but he can't act like we don't have our own interests in mind. And if he truly doesn't have America's interests first then there is a problem with our president. It is hard to explain this away "Just as Muslims do not fit a crude stereotype, America is not the crude stereotype of a self-interested empire." we have and we always, hopefully always will do things that are in our best interests first and foremost. It is silly to make such a speech and in it say we are not a self-interested empire, because I think the reason he made the speech was for our own self-interest. I did find very amusing and agree with his criticisms of Israel. The only solution that will end the violence is a two state solution. But in order for us to help achieve that we need to get tougher with Israel, like the brother who does something stupid point it out then help them make the situation better. I understand the presidents intentions but I think a couple of the statements he made are going to be seen as a little disingenuous.
