Where the hell is the separation of church and state? Man the lines in this "conflict" are very blurry. While I don't understand how you could claim to be a catholic and support abortion. I do understand there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Why can't the catholic church avoid taking positions on items like health care? Abortion is a little more understandable but they shouldn't try to influence anybody.

I thought the whole point of the reform or at least a major factor was that everyone would be covered. So he is going from what 90 percent covered to 94 percent. Doesn't make much sense to me if your goal was to bring coverage to all Americans.

I can't understand why on the one hand the government wants to give everyone health care but on the other stop doing mammograms to women in their 40's even though it saves lives. Very strange to me. I hate that there is a public option in this but there is a compromise and states may opt out. We will have to wait and see what the final bill will look like but I just hate that more compromise can't be involved.

Re: [Random Political Thoughts and News] Yahoo! News Story - Shooting suspect's s...

You can't blame the religion but you can blame a growing trend within the religion.  I am not one of those who perpetuate the double standard because there is a definite strain of the Christian religion who see nothing wrong with what has happened to abortion doctors.  So while you can't blame the religion at a whole you must recognize there is this certain element that is found in most groups of people, religion is not immune.

This is the problem I have with this.  One crazy asshole who happens to be Muslim kills innocents, then the religion gets the blame.  His religion didn't kill those people he did.  He used his religion as his scapegoat to justify his actions.  The Muslim religion doesn't preach to go kill innocent people.  When Timothy McVeigh bombed the abortion clinic in Oklahoma city was Christianity blamed?  How about the abortion doctor who was recently murdered?  Or the multiple murders of homosexuals in this country.  Double standard for Christianity.

Yep it was definitely terrorism.  Nowadays that is such a loaded word though.

Fw: Rupert Murdoch: Glenn Beck is right -- Obama is a racist

The problem I have with this email is that everyone knows that these people listed are giving their own opinions.  Its not as if these shows claim that they aren't opinion based.  They aren't promoting these as if they were factual news stories.  Anyone who has ever watched these shows knows what they are.  Should that be the case?  So many opinion based shows, probably not but I watch MSNBC and they certainly have the same types of shows, of course with the perspective more in line with Media Matters but I don't think either network is fooling anybody.  Everybody knows that they talk about the news using their opinions.

Subject: Rupert Murdoch: Glenn Beck is right -- Obama is a racist

Media Matters November 10, 2009

Dear Friend,

"[H]e was right." -- Rupert Murdoch discussing Glenn Beck's comment that President Obama is "a racist."

In July, Glenn Beck infamously stated that he believes President Obama is "a racist" with a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." These comments played a major role in at least 80 advertisers dropping their support of Beck's television program. Numerous media outlets and personalities rebuked the comments, but Fox News gave Beck a free pass. Why?

Well, the reason is now clear: Rupert Murdoch, chairman of News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, agrees that President Obama is a racist. This is a new low even for Fox, and one we cannot let stand.

Since Murdoch refuses to rebuke Glenn Beck - we need to hold him accountable and demand that he apologize for his own hateful remarks.

Join us and demand that Murdoch apologize. We'll deliver the signatures to NewsCorp: mediamatters.org/action/murdochapology

In an interview with Sky News Australia, Murdoch said of Beck's notorious comment:

On the racist thing, that caused a [unintelligible]. But he did make a very racist comment, about, you know, blacks and whites and so on, and which he said in his campaign he would be completely above. And, you know, that was something which perhaps shouldn't have been said about the president, but if you actually assess what he was talking about, he was right.

A Fox News host calls the President of the United States a racist, and his boss, rather than suspending or publicly rebuking him, says that his employee "was right." We need to hold Murdoch and Fox News accountable for this incendiary, outrageous rhetoric. Please take a moment to sign our petition demanding an immediate apology from Murdoch. When you are done signing, please ask your friends to join our call for accountability.

mediamatters.org/action/murdochapology

Unfortunately, this type of race-baiting is par for the course for Fox News. As we recently documented, Fox News president Roger Ailes spent the better part of his career working as a Republican media consultant, during which time he became known for appealing to racial fears and biases for political gain. Under Ailes' leadership Fox News routinely employs these same tactics in its ongoing campaign to destroy the Obama administration and the progressive agenda. Examples include:

  • Hannity just can't "get over" his Rev. Wright obsession. Sean Hannity -- who claimed he "broke the story" about Obama's controversial former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, during the 2008 campaign -- mentioned Wright on at least 45 different episodes of his Fox News show between Obama's inauguration and July 31.
  • O'Reilly tease: "[S]hould white Americans be concerned about Judge Sotomayor?" Bill O'Reilly stated, "Next on the rundown: Should white Americans be concerned about Judge Sotomayor? Later, far-left Hispanic group says if you oppose the judge, you could be racist." [The O'Reilly Factor, 7/13/09].
  • Rev. Peterson: Obama was elected "mostly by black racists and white guilty people." On Hannity, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson said, "I think we all agree that Barack Obama was elected by, mostly by black racists and white guilty people." [Hannity, 2/3/09].

Murdoch's comments are simply the latest example of Fox News shredding the last vestiges of its credibility. Fox News is not a news organization; it is an official arm of the GOP,openly advocating against President Obama and the progressive agenda. As the cable network has shown repeatedly, no tactics are too sleazy to further its goal of damagingprogressives. Murdoch has now given his stamp of approval to the idea that the president of the United States is "a racist."

Demand that Murdoch apologize: mediamatters.org/action/murdochapology

Thank you for your continued help in holding the media accountable.

Political parties are like watching TV when you get bored you change the channel.  This is very common occurrence.  People don't understand how the Federal government works and think every problem in the country is governments problem.  So they vote the opposite party in power in hopes that they bring their magic wand to office.  I wouldn't get too riled up Mr. Limbaugh.

RE: [Random Political Thoughts and News] Yahoo! News Story - Reid Lacks Votes for...

Ultimately it is your responsibilty to take care of yourself. There is no American ego here. But there is a large amount of people who like to do things just because everyone else is doing them and that is just as bothersome.

There is a big processed food business because there is big demand for it. You don't expect your car insurance to keep your car running do you? No it is for accidents. You can't expect your insurance to keep you healthy. I don't know what these procedures are that the middle class can't afford but I have yet to have one that I can't afford. What you want is the government to take care of people because they are too stupid to do it themselves. Unless you are an idiot you know that you don't need to eat McDonalds no matter how much money they use for advertising.

Preventive care is what we need but the best and most efective preventive care is what YOU do. You don't put the cigarette in your mouth and you don't eat the fatty foods. The government always has other motives when they claim its for your good. There are only 12 million people who can't truly afford health insurance, so why is the government trying to paint a picture that health insurance is so expensive?

We aren't going to see eye to eye on this. I expect people to be able to be free and make there own desicions within a free market. You expect the government to make desicions for people who are too dumb to do it on their own and have no market and government control of everything, a European wonderland where their is no free will and people are told what to do but there are no corporations and everything is cheap because the government owns it.

You know what lets privatize police, firefighters, libraries, department of transportation, F.B.I., C.I.A., and Military while we are at it since the government is terrible and private corporations are so ethical.  Just imagine all of that ran by private corporations.   Read this sentence and tell me if it's ethical, "I profit from people being sick."  Majority of the industrialized world has government run health care.  Why aren't they revolting?  I want you to do a poll in those countries and ask  if they want private insurance lol.  They all have higher life expectancy than us.   Cuts to Medicare are being proposed because with a public option not as much benefits are needed.  The reason Medicare is having problems is because health care costs are ridiculous.  Ask seniors if they want their government run health care taken away so they are forced to buy private insurance.

It's immoral for somebody to profit and flourish from the sick and dying.  Why don't you understand that?  If firefighters were privatized do you think it would be great if they charged you money before they came to put out a fire lol?  Why do you defend a industry that gets incentives and bonuses from the amount of people they deny health care to?

Capitalism only works when there is competition and the Private Health Care providers have none because everyone gets sick and they are forced to pay into a broken and expensive system.

The reason the public option is the answer because looking around the world it provides health care to all that need it.  They pay barely anything per family compared to us.  They are ranked higher than us in health care.  It will force private insurers to compete and lower their costs.  France who has a hybrid system of private and government health care very similar to the system in congress, has the Number 1 health care system in the world.  Number one in costs, quality, and quantity.

Every single U.S. citizen deserves a chance at life.  The size of your wallet shouldn't determine your life expectancy.
